VJ Um Amel is a media artist and critic. Her practices include visual projection, installation art, interactive storytelling, data visualization, and innovative research. She believes that a thriving art scene and digital literacy are keys to 21st century democratic practices. VJ Um Amel’s work has been exhibited and performed in international festivals, galleries, and museums. She holds an M.A. in Arab Studies from Georgetown University and an M.F.A. in Digital Arts and New Media from University of California, Santa Cruz. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Cinematic Arts (Media Arts Practice) at the University of Southern California where she was awarded an Annenberg Fellowship.
